THE APS
The effectiveness of our services is is enhanced by the administration of the Arno Profile System (APS) prior to the beginning of coaching sessions. The APS is a very effective clinical, diagnostic tool developed by Drs. Richard and Phyllis Arno (founders of the National Christian Counselors Association, the top Christian counseling association in the nation) in the 1980's for the purpose of developing a scripturally based therapeutic procedure that would produce a more effective counseling relationship. They developed this system over seven years through systematic research with over 5,000 individuals. The counselees sought help for depression, inter/intra-personal conflict, marriage and family dysfunctions and anxiety.
Reports generated by the APS have a highly proven success rate (95.4%) in clinical studies and reveal problems that would normally take Dr. Banks seven or eight sessions to identify, saving the client valuable time and expense. Research has shown that over 90% of counselees who voluntarily seek counseling utilizing this method are helped. That's powerful! Indeed, much valuable information can be gleaned from this report! It provides insight into a person's strengths and weaknesses; how an individual makes his or her decisions; gives understanding as to why you do what you do; helps identify the source(s) of stress and pressure a person deals with; identifies an individual's communication style; tells whether a person is a loner or prefers to be around people; helps to identify what career may be best suited for an individual and what types of environments cause this person to strive; and it tells whether or not an individual is independent or independent, just to name a few.
The APS measures a person's temperament (who God created us to be; our spiritual genetics) rather than a person's learned behavior or personality (the mask they wear, which is expressed in the way we perceive how we must behave to survive in the world we live). Temperament is the inborn (not genetic, i.e. brown hair, black eyes) part of man that determines how he reacts to people, places and things. It is how an individual interacts with their environments and the world around them. It is the determining factor of how well we handle the stresses and pressures of life and pinpoints our perception of ourselves and the people who love us.
The APS measures temperament in three areas: Inclusion - a person's social orientation; our need to have social relationships - friends, co-workers, etc. and intellectual energies; Control - his or her willingness to make decisions for self and others; how independent or dependent an individual is; and Affection - measures a person's need to have close relationships and our willingness to provide this kind of relationship to others.
How it works? The APS is given to the client at the beginning of the life coaching relationship. It consists of 54 questions and takes about 10 minutes. Simple and easy. The results, the clinical report (Clinial APS for Adults), are given to Dr. Banks and used in the coaching process. A client can also receive a copy of his or her APS report.
The APS also can be given to children between the ages of 7 and 17. This is called the Clinical APS for Youth. There is also the APS Personnel which can be used with pre-employment screening, to find out what best motivates an employee, to help with employee morale and provide guidance in career counseling.
Finally, the APS can also be used simply on a stand alone basis, where a client simply desires to learn about his or her temperament and not signed up for life coaching. Remember, information gained from the APS can be very informative and empowering for a client, helping them to better understand themselves.
